When Did it Become Ok..

When did it become ok for coaches to look so damn bad?

I was watching Andy Reid walk off of the field the other day, and he is a little chunky.
Bill Parcells was quite a specimen also. Ryan at the Jets?

I have been fat, and it sucks. I did it on purpose for powerlifting and it was a mistake. Fat is no way to live.

When I was growing up in Maryland, my father played tennis and basketball daily with football Coach Jerry Claiborne of the University of Maryland. Claiborne would be on the court doing situps when my dad arrived.

He REQUIRED his staff to exercise everyday. Yes, even when they were in season. That dreaded IN SEASON where life stops and couches are slept on and families are swept to the side!! Claiborne didnt care what you did, raquetball, lifting weights, tennis, basketball, badminton. Just exercise.

Even when they were going to bowl games and winning ACC championships after championship.....they all had to move, move , move. Daily.

Exercise helps you think clearly, it relieves stress, it improves body composition...And a sound mind and a sound body and all that really matters.

Now that sets an example for your athletes to follow.

All About Being a Lifer

What's a Lifer? Someone who isn't in to something for just a day, a month, a year...it's for life. Whether its training or your family or your job...it doesn't matter. You work at it, you build on it, you see the big picture . You don't miss workouts because it means something to you. You are like a Shakespearean actor- no matter what is going on in your life, you block it out when it's time to train. You walk into the weight room and all else disappears. Worry about it later.
