I Don't Have Time To Train

I hear that one all of the time. Dont say it, because you know that you have time, you just dont want to train. Life is what you are motivated to do, and that's it. When my dad was trying to organize noon time basketball or tennis at the University Of Maryland in the 1970's and 80's, invariably he would call his teaching friends to play and he would get the "I don't have time" excuse. So my dad would go through these questions " Are you going to eat lunch? Yes? Then skip lunch. Are you going to talk on the phone? Yes? Dont talk on the phone. There, now you have time.".

My deal is that you always have time, you just don't want to train, to be perceived as a wimp. In my mind, you are better off saying that you just dont want to train, instead of lying about the whole thing. Because, honestly, if you have 2 minutes, literally 2 minutes, you can get a great workout. Load a bar with your bodyweight and squat it as many times as you can do, then immediately reduce the weight to 50% of your bodyweight and do as many reps as you can do. Now crawl out of the gym. How long does it take to flip the channels or text message, anyway?

All About Being a Lifer

What's a Lifer? Someone who isn't in to something for just a day, a month, a year...it's for life. Whether its training or your family or your job...it doesn't matter. You work at it, you build on it, you see the big picture . You don't miss workouts because it means something to you. You are like a Shakespearean actor- no matter what is going on in your life, you block it out when it's time to train. You walk into the weight room and all else disappears. Worry about it later.
